In a word, I LOVE this camera. The one thing missing is a window you need to squint and look through, but to me this is nothing.
The software works, but I prefer saving photos to my memory card and just using a memory card reader. The price on this camera is just about right +/- $200. This actually ended up saving us hundreds of dollars; we unfortunately had a home improvement contractor try to screw us over, but we were able to use our photos to prove against what he was trying to do (long story).
I prefer not having that window.* The high optical zoom of 7x is great for zooming and maintaining picture quality (fyi, digital zoom is useless - the optical zoom is what lets you zoom in without getting pixelatged pictures)* 10 megapixels mean you can enlarge to 8"x10" or more and your photos still maintain their quality without getting pixelated or faded. The sound review is a little quiet, but download it onto a computer and you can hear everything just fine.* The camera has software to download photos to your computer.
I bought this camera a year ago to replace a Kodak Z730. Some of my favorite features:* It has a big LCD display, visible even in bright sunlight.
so this camera has already paid for itself.* There are presets you can use - select "behind glass" or "extreme close up" or any of a dozen other presets, and you can point and click instead of needing to know what f-setting or macro mode will yield the best photos.* The battery life has been great - I think I can take at least 200 photos, with flash, and with using the photo review, without needing to recharge.* The video quality is terrific, including picture and sound.
I'm trading him - he can use this crummy camera for work and I will go back to my bulkier, but way better, Cannon. actually produce worse results than just leaving it on auto.TWO DAYS after the one year warranty was up the camera just stopped working in the middle of a series of still photos I was trying to take- black screen, funny noises, etc.The customer service was terrible. That is about all we got with this purchase. The photos are usually grainy indoors on any setting, be it auto or not. The preprogrammed settings for action shots, night photos, etc. There was no impact to this camera - period. I really thought long and hard about spending that kind of money on a camera I wasn't real happy with in the first place. The stabalization feature really has never lived up to the claims made by Olympus. Outdoor scenic shots with no motion aren't bad, but that is about all it can do well.
They insisted it was due to 'impact' and said it would be $105 to repair. Replacing this sub-par camera with a better one would have cost more than I was able to spend at the time.My husband needed a camera for work, and he took our older Cannon when we purchased this. Wanted to upgrade from my trusty digital Cannon because we wanted a larger viewing screen and a slimmer, smaller camera. Many of the photos we have taken have enough blur in any motion situation to make them unacceptable. They were cold, rude and hade a huge "take it or leave it" attitude.
I couldn't be happier with this purchase. The battery has long life and I purchased a second for my trip. Small, lightweight with a large digital display. For novices, like me, I suggest you read the instruction manual and practice using different features of any camera prior to an important event. I have limited experience with digital cameras and purchased this one for a vacation. I have been so pleased with the features, ease of use and quality of the pictures taken with this camera. Also, it is easy to order the photo card online, it was difficult to find one locally at a reasonable price.
Canon all the way. Unfortunately they did not comepletely fix the autofocus, it did ok in light, just not dark, i didnt have time to send the item back for a couple months, then when i did they claimed i "impacted" it. Well i was excited to get this camera, when i got it, it took pretty good pics, nice zoom, it was pretty decent.Problems i had were that it did not do goood in low light, and autofocus wasnt great. The battery cover latch broke, and the spinwheel was fading awayI sent for warranty, they fixed the spin wheel and battery cover latch. There was NO impact to this camera, warranty refused to fix it, and now i have a half ass camera.Ridiculous.Never again olympus.
When I did not receive the product by the expected date, I called the company and was told the camera was out of stock and they would not be able to get any more. I ordered this product and the order was confirmed with a shipping date given. They did refund the money but I had to order a different camera elsewhere and did not have a camera in time for photos of my grandson's birthday.
